First Run Video was founded in 1858 by a Pomegratian immigrant, Ivan Awfullicz. We are proud to be celebrating our 150th Anniversary this year. Of course this was back in the days when VCRs were steamed powered and the images were projected onto screens woven from horsehair using bees wax candles. When Ivan first set up shop on Pootney Turnpike in Brattleburg he only had seven movies to rent. Each “cassette” was as large as a potato sack, weighed over twenty pounds and only contained eighteen minutes of “video”. All movies were in black and white and of course were silent. We’ve come along way since those days but some things never change. We are still enjoying movies as much as ever. Today, First Run Video has over thirty thousand copies of twenty thousand different titles. We’re the largest video store in all of Vermont and one of the largest in all New England. In 2002 we were honored by our national trade association as the Video Store of the Year (Video Software Dealer’s Association Retailer of the Year Award). …to be continued.
